Local election won't affect govt's decision on Chinalco's deal
发布时间:2009-02-22
Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan said on Sunday that the upcoming Queensland election won't impact the government's consideration on Rio Tinto and Chinalco's deal.
"But our decision on the Rio-Chinalco matter will be taken on its merits," Swan told Network Ten, adding that the government will take this decision in the national interest. Queensland Premier Anna Bligh urged the government on Wednesday to consider the economic consequences after the failure of investment between Australia's major mining company Rio Tinto, and China's major aluminium producer Chinalco. "I hope that the FIRB (Foreign Investment Review Board) take that into account in their deliberations," Bligh said. At least 2,150 jobs in Queensland and other states will be lost, if the deal fails, Rio Tinto has said, urging the government to approve the agreement. Rio's 19.5 billion U.S. dollars deal with Chinalco, which was struck last week, is waiting for approval from Australian shareholders, government and the Foreign Investment Review Board. 此文章由琥儿提供,佳禾外语进行整理。
